Ecosystems:

Ecosystems consist of groups of plants and animals, along with the abiotic resources that those plants and animals use to live.

Ecosystems are very complicated, but they all have a basic structure:

• ENERGY SOURCES
• MINERALS
• AIR
• WATER
• HABITATS
• BIOTIC COMPONENTS
• PLANTS
• ANIMALS

One of the reasons that the Schuylkill River and all rivers are so important is because water is one of those abiotic factors that are essential for life. That importance is why water quality issues are so important to people in communities around the world.
